Call for freedom

A dance theatre/film featuring the tragic events of iranian protests in 2009.

Call for Freedom (2010) is an artistic reaction to political struggle happening in Iran months before, specifically the killing of pacific demonstrators in Teheran. A shocking choreography by persian artist Ulduz Ahmadzadeh is combined with real footage of the episode and sound layer combined onstage. The footage of the death of Neda Agha-Soltan drew international attention after she was killed during the 2009 Iranian protests. Her death was captured on video by bystanders and was broadcast over the internet. The video became a rallying point for the opposition. It was described as "probably the most widely witnessed death in human history".

Neda in Persian means "voice" or calling", which is the main stress of this project. Neues Atelier is working on this project with the whole team, supported by dancers from Konservatorium Wien and Iranian musicians in Vienna.

Music: Adrián Artacho
